La Pazza Venuta da Napoli
or The Madness of Love
The Kapsber’girls
Drawing on the cantata *La Pazza Venuta da Napoli*, composed around 1630 by Pietro Antonio Giramo, Les Kapsber’girls take us on a journey—blending music, staging and improvisation—into a pocket-sized opera with a Commedia dell’arte feel: the story of a woman mad with love who, having been harshly spurned by the man of her dreams, wanders between delirious tales and heart-rending songs.
Alongside this tragicomic figure from Giramo’s work, vocal pieces by Barbara Strozzi and Hiéronymus Kapsberger
enrich the world of a concert centred on the theme of love-madness. A theme sung a thousand times over in both the south and north of Italy, in the city as well as at court, in the streets of Naples as well as in the halls of the Barberini Palace.
A performance that skilfully blends humour and emotion, spoken and sung words, drama and musical energy. An immersive experience accessible to all!
